| ENROLL NOW FOR SPRING 2012 PROGRAMS Program begins February 6 thru April 19, 2012  MODELING MAKE UP APPLICATION HAIR DESIGN POSING PHOTOGRAPHY THE URBAN GIRL MAGAZINE WANT TO BE A STAR? The Urban Girl Magazine is a youth-led, youth driving program created specifically for young females 13 through 18 years of age. The Urban Girl Magazine educates young females in the field of magazine publishing, journalism and reporting. Young girls can learn how to model, apply make-up, become photographers and learn about the clothing industry while participating in this program. Like The Urban Teen Magazine, this program also provides youth experience where they are engaged in a specific content area which focuses on real-world experiences that are relevant, challenging and meaningful. The program provides interactive programming to young girls, helping them to develop skills within the specific field of journalism and exposing them to a professional discipline focusing on critical workplace skills such as leadership, decision-making, critical thinking, teamwork and organization. Young girls coordinate efforts to create their own youth inspired teen magazine/publication that's for and by females. They are guided through their creative writing and communication skills; drafting revisions, editing, proofreading, news reporting, photography, article developing and interviewing. Teens are responsible for graphic and artistic design, promotion and marketing of the teen publication and guided in the process of production. The Program empowers young females by improving and developing math, reading, writing, speech communication and research skills, as well as develop positive self esteem, character and relationship building and provide mentoring opportunities and teen leadership. The Urban Girl Magazine is a spin-off of The Urban Teen Magazine program with one diverse difference. The publication is written and cre ate for, by and with women in mind. Like The Urban Teen Magazine, this program provides interactive programming for teens, helping to develop skills within a specific field, exposing them to a professional discipline and focuses on critical workplace skills such as leadership, decision-making, critical thinking, teamwork and organization. Young females involved in the program are encouraged to express their opinions creatively through writing and reporting within an environment that fosters skilled growth and development of profession that for so many years was dominated by males. Specific to this job training program, girls in this program also learn modeling, artistic design, page layout, hair and makeup application, photography, speech communication and lots more.
