Our Youth Participants

The Urban Teen Magazine, the oldest of Elijah's House programs serving Chicago youth since October, 2003.
Elijah's House Urban Teen Magazine program attracts youth from communities throughout the Chicagoland area. These communities include Austin, North Lawndale, Oak Park, Humboldt Park, East and West Garfield Park, Englewood, Hyde Park, Woodlawn and South Chicago.
The Process
The Urban Teen Magazine Staff collaborates in a team setting, brainstorming ideas, researching data and developing content for article placement within the magazine.

In clearly defined roles as Reporters, Journalists, Photographers, Publishers and Editors each youth participant works to develop specific topics of interests. Their responsibility includes writing, drafting revisions, editing, proofreading, news reporting, photography and interviewing. Each task and effort moves them closer towards meeting a deadline for article placement.
Finally as the completion of a publication approaches, each youth along the way would have developed skills that prepare them for challenging workforce environments.
