WORD CHOICE CAFE'
Word Choice Café is an innovative out-of-school program for teens age 14 through 17 interested in the fields of culinary arts. The program provides opportunities that help build job skills in teens while preparing them for comprehensive and competitive job markets. As two-fold program, Word Choice Cafe' includes the implementation of entrepreneurship development and hands-on application that transforms effort into economic goods and services. The goal of is to provide opportunities for teens to showcase their talents within a venue that promotes hard and soft job skills development.
Word Choice Café is a Program that aims to provide teens with practical job skills development in the profession of hospitality and food service. Utilizing hands-on organized methodologies teens will learn and develop skills in basic food preparation, sanitation, business and financial management useful in the culinary arts industry. A Program designed to help teens develop skills for new business development, Word Choice Café utilizes an entrepreneurial approach to create a viable solution to decrease teen unemployment using available community and human resources that assists teens in securing and maintain jobs while improving their quality of life. Each week teens will work through a curriculum that focuses on skills including food preparation, storage, nutrition, menu planning, financial management and business development. Full class participation is emphasized through teamwork and individual projects. The focus is on applied and problem based instruction that is designed to enable and inspire youth to develop career skills in food production, management and service industry. These concepts provide youth a foundation in professional food preparation with practice application in career opportunities, reinforced basic skills, food safety and sanitation, nutrition, use of commercial equipment, leadership, business management, service techniques, development of basic morals and values which reinforce employability skills.
